Scrap Metal Initiative

18th October 2023/ Company News

As part of our commitment to Sustainability, we’ve introduced a new scrap metal recycling initiative to reduce the amount of waste from our production warehouse.

The bins will be used for a range of scrap metals:

•    Drill bits
•    Dirty copper
•    Clean copper
•    Mixed metals

How It Works

We’re working closely with a carbon neutral certified company, 2Recycling, who have provided us with 5 T-Type bins, which are fork-liftable and stackable storage containers for scrap mental waste management.

They promise, “2 Recycling Ltd sets industry-leading standards whilst helping you look after your environmental compliance and ISO audit trails.”

What Is Each Bin Used For?

We have one by the laser fibre machine for the swarf and off cut waste from the machine.

We have two for general mixed steel/metals.

One for clean copper such as electrical bus bar.

One for ‘dirty’ copper such as cable with PVC shielding.

Any larger pieces such as STB enclosures can be palletised for collection.

What Happens Next?

Once collected the containers are weighed on a weigh bridge, the ticket photographed and the relevant price is applied to the different grade of waste metal.

2Recycling then provide us with a complete audit trail of Wate Transfer Notes and European Waste Codes.

What Is The Scrap Metal Used For?

The waste metal is processed into secondary raw materials for re-use by end users and specialist foundries & consumers.
