Mental Health Awareness Day At Europa

12th October 2023/ Blog

Tuesday the 10th October was World Mental Health Day, and we asked everyone to take a mindful walk.

Walking has huge potential to enhance our wellbeing; even a 10 minute brisk walk increases mental alertness, energy and a positive mood.

Did the team rise to the challenge?

Yes, several members of the team took part and were keen to share the details, here’s what some of them had to say!

•    Paul did a 5 mile walk in the morning and survived a rather tall corn field!
•    Karen and her dog Meg walked 3.5 miles up Dunstable Downs.
•    Charlie took happy Freyja out to enjoy the sunshine.
•    Alice went for a walk with her daughter after work to collect sticks.
•    Marc made the most of the good weather at lunch time with a walk around the parks.
•    Paul and his dog George enjoyed the scenery of the hills!
•    Nicola went for a walk to the local park after work.
•    Ryan went for a 1.72 mile walk in the village in the evening.

We are pleased to have donated £350 to mental health charity Young Minds, the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health, in support of this.

What else have we done at Europa?

The wellbeing of our team is incredibly important to us – we’re committed to creating a psychologically safe workplace with a positive working culture. We want to create a place where everyone feels supported and comfortable discussing mental health. Employee wellbeing and how you feel when you’re at work is part of our commitment to you. We take responsibility for ensuring our team feel safe and happy while at work, physically and mentally.

We have set up the Wellbeing Team as a peer support group who have all volunteered to become an Everymind Champion.

What a Champion is:

•    Someone who can provide peer support
•    Someone who takes action in raising awareness around the importance of mental health
•    Someone who (if they wish) can share their own experience with mental health to inspire others
•    Contributes to the goal of reducing stigma surrounding mental health in the workplace

We also support our employees with a number of benefits, from healthcare to around the clock assistance programs for their entire household.

A big part of creating a mentally healthy workplace is ensuring we all take care of ourselves and each other.

Thanks to everyone who took part in our challenge and raised awareness for an important cause!
